The following are several of the most common graffiti styles:


Tagging:
  • simplest and most common form of graffiti
  • consists of the writers signature usually done in one colour

Throw-Up:
  • consists of text or a signature like a tag but more complicated
  • often contains 2-3 colours, done quickly and repeatedly to identify artist

Stencils:
  • artists use stencils to put up more complex pieces quickly
  • stencils help create more detailed pictures

Stickers:
  • quick and easy way to mark or tag something
  • allows the artist to take their time then stick anywhere
  • like a stencil but usually less detailed

Wildstyle:
  • complicated and extremely stylized form of writing
  • text may be difficult to read but often considered one of the most complicated and respected forms of graffiti

Piece (Masterpiece)
  • essentially a graffiti painting
  • very difficult to di illegally (because of time constraints) and will earn the artists a lot of street credibility and respect

Blockbuster
  • covers maximum area in minimal time
  • often used to cover up other work or block other artists from tagging

Heaven
  • a piece in a very hard to reach location (i.e. tall building, highway signs)
  • dangerous and difficult to reach
